Believe: Legal Information
Last updated: 19 August 2026
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the Believe mobile application ("the App") handles information. The App is published by VeloSec ("we", "us", "our"), and this policy is provided in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information. The App has no accounts, no sign-in, and no server component operated by us. It contains no networking code of any kind, so it is not capable of sending your information anywhere, whether deliberately or by accident.
2. Your Photographs
The App exists to place a character into a photograph you choose. Because of what it is for, that photograph is often of a child asleep in their own home, and we have designed the App on the basis that such an image should never leave the device it is on.
- You either take the photograph in the App, or choose an existing one through Apple's own photo picker. When you choose an existing one, the App receives only the single image you select, and has no access to the rest of your library;
- A photograph taken in the App is held in memory and is not saved anywhere until you ask for it, so taking one and discarding it leaves nothing behind;
- The photograph is held in memory while you are editing, and is not written to any storage of ours;
- The photograph is never uploaded, transmitted, backed up, or shared by the App;
- The finished image is saved only when you ask for it, and only to your own photo library.
3. On-Device Image Analysis
To decide where a visitor should stand, how large they should be, and which way the light in the room falls, the App analyses the photograph you have chosen using Apple's Vision framework and Core Image. This analysis runs entirely on your device.
Part of that analysis locates the person in the photograph, and where no person is found by other means, it looks for the position of a face. This is used only to find where someone is within the picture so the character can be placed sensibly beside them. It does not identify anyone, it is not face recognition, no face data is stored, and nothing derived from it is retained after you leave the editing screen.
4. Photo Library Permissions
The App asks for three separate permissions, and each is used only for its stated purpose:
- Camera, so you can take the picture to place a visitor into. The camera is opened only when you tap to take a photo, and the App does not record video or use the camera at any other time;
- Selecting a photo, so you can choose an existing picture instead;
- Adding to your library, so the finished image can be saved. This is add-only access: the App can put a new photo into your library, and cannot read, alter, or delete anything already in it.
You can review or revoke any of them at any time in Settings, under Privacy & Security. Without permission to add photos, the App can still produce and share an image, but cannot save it for you. Without the camera, you can still choose an existing photograph.
5. Data Stored on Your Device
The App does not maintain a library, history, or gallery of its own. Images you create are saved to your photo library at your request and are thereafter yours to manage like any other photo. Uninstalling the App does not remove images you have already saved.
6. Analytics and Tracking
The App contains no analytics, tracking, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting frameworks. We do not measure or record how you use the App, and we receive no information about you at all.
7. Third-Party Services
The App uses only Apple's own on-device frameworks:
- UIKit, Apple's camera controller, for taking an image;
- PhotosUI, Apple's photo picker, for choosing an existing one;
- Photos, saving the finished image to your library;
- Vision, locating the person in the photograph, on device;
- Core Image, building the finished picture.
There are no third-party SDKs in the App. Apple's frameworks are governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is intended to be used by adults, and is not directed at children under 13. Photographs of children are frequently the subject of the images it is used on, which is precisely why the App collects nothing, transmits nothing, and keeps no record of what it has been used on. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, because we do not collect personal information at all.
9. Your Rights
Under the Privacy Act you have the right to access and seek correction of personal information we hold about you. Because the App sends us nothing, we hold no personal information about you to access, correct, or delete. You remain in control of everything on your device at all times.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if the App gains a feature that changes how it handles information. Any changes will appear on this page with a revised date above.

Terms of Use
These terms apply to your use of the Believe application. By installing or using the App, you agree to them.
1. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App on devices you own or control, in accordance with the terms of the store you obtained it from. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or redistribute the App except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by law.
2. Images You Create
The photographs you supply remain yours. Images you produce with the App are yours to keep, print, and share as you see fit, including for commercial purposes, subject to the restriction on the artwork below.
You are responsible for having the right to use the photographs you put into the App, and for how you use what comes out of it. In particular, please do not use the App to create images intended to deceive, harass, or misrepresent a real person or event.
3. Character Artwork
The character artwork supplied with the App remains ours. You may use it freely as part of an image you have made with the App, but you may not extract, redistribute, or use the artwork on its own or as an asset in another product.
4. What the App Does and Does Not Promise
The App analyses your photograph to suggest a placement, a size, and a lighting match. These are estimates produced automatically from the picture, and they will not always be right. A photograph with no clear subject, no visible floor, or flat, even lighting gives it very little to work from. Every automatic decision can be adjusted by hand, and you should expect to do so sometimes. We do not warrant that any particular photograph will produce a convincing result.
5. Availability
The App is provided as is. We may change, suspend, or discontinue it, or any of its features, at any time.
6. Consumer Guarantees and Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for a failure to comply with a consumer guarantee is limited to resupplying the App or paying the cost of resupply, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the App.
7. Intellectual Property
The App, its name, its icon, and its artwork are owned by VeloSec and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
8. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that State.
9. Contact
